United Independent School District Library
Mission Statement

The mission of the United Independent School District (UISD) libraries is to empower students to thrive as informed, critical thinkers and ethical digital citizens in an ever-evolving global society. Through collaboration, leadership, and the integration of technology, we cultivate an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that fosters information literacy across diverse formats.

Aligned with the latest educational standards, UISD libraries are committed to providing equitable access to resources that reflect the cultural, linguistic, and intellectual diversity of our community. We strive to nurture a love of reading, spark creativity, and inspire lifelong learning among our students.

Our libraries serve as catalysts for academic achievement, enabling students to reach their full potential and actively engage with complex ideas and perspectives. By supporting the school curriculum and embracing innovative pedagogical approaches, we empower learners to produce original scholarship and effectively communicate their ideas.

At UISD libraries, we champion intellectual freedom and encourage critical inquiry by offering a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives. By fostering a culture of collaboration and respect, we aim to cultivate a community of learners who are empowered to navigate the complexities of our interconnected world with curiosity, empathy, and resilience.

UISD libraries champion intellectual freedom, promote diversity of thought, and encourage critical inquiry. We provide students with opportunities to explore a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives, fostering a culture of dialogue, empathy, and respect.

Welcome to the Relay for Life section for Antonio Gonzalez Middle School!

Relay for Life is an inspiring event held outside of our school premises, where teams gather to walk all night in solidarity with those affected by cancer.

At AGMS, Relay for Life holds a special place in our hearts as we honor and remember individuals who have battled cancer.

Among them are cherished members of our school community:

Mrs. Reyna, our dedicated 7th-grade teacher,

Ms. De La Cruz, our resource teacher,

and Ms. Ornelas, our esteemed 8th-grade CATE teacher.

Tragically, we recently lost Ms. Ornelas to cancer on April 8th, 2024.

Her memory lives on in our hearts, and we are committed to continuing our support for this cause until a cure for cancer is found.

Through Relay for Life, we strive to celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those we have lost, and support ongoing research efforts to combat cancer.

Telpas Links

As part of our commitment to supporting the academic growth and success of our bilingual students, the librarian at AGMS is playing a vital role in assisting with pull-out groups for the administration of the TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) test.

The TELPAS test is a crucial assessment mandated by the state of Texas, designed to measure the yearly progress of bilingual students in their English language proficiency.

It serves as a valuable tool for evaluating students' language development and ensuring they are receiving the support they need to excel academically.

Beginning in October, the librarian will be involved in organizing and facilitating pull-out groups to provide additional support and resources for students preparing for the TELPAS test.

These groups will offer targeted instruction and practice sessions to help students build their English language skills and feel confident in their abilities to succeed on the assessment.

For more information about the TELPAS test, including testing dates, preparation resources, and important updates, please visit the provided link.

We are dedicated to ensuring the success of our bilingual students, and the support of the librarian in facilitating pull-out groups for TELPAS administration is just one way we are fulfilling that commitment.
